I have noticed that for all the early KUBs, their engine seems modified. I'm referring to all 80XX, 81XX, 82XX, 83XX, 84XX, 85XX up to around 8550? Their engine, while deccelerating, instead of shifting down the gears one by one, it automatically switches to neutral, or at least that was what it sounded like to me...it's like when u step in the clutch on a manual vehicle kind of thing. For the later KUBs, the engine is "normal", as in they shift down one by one. How come the engines of the old KUBs so 'special' that they are changed? They were not originally like that. And so far I only managed to catch ONE old KUB still with the original engine shifting down, SBS8496B. Is there a reason for the fleet wide engine modification? Every old KUB is like that.
If the findings is true, it is probably because of too many complains about/regarding the engine braking effect of this earlier batches of kub (which can easily cause ppl to fall if they did not grab a pole)
Havent been on a kub for quite some time so i wouldnt comment if it really is this effect.

Its not neutral. Its just that the lock-up clutch disengages once the last gear it was at switches downwards.
For the integrated gearbox retarder to work, the relevant gear must still be engaged.
I think it has got to do with SBST doing away with the engine-braking once the bus's mainteinance was fully handed over from Scania.
I think its a good thing. The engine braking is just irritating and under most road conditions, and given the bus goes around at speeds <60km/h, there's really no need for it. It doesnt justify the added complexity in having to time the clutching in, and the wearing out of the clutch surface.

Clutch? As if like the KUBs are Manual bus....... I tot all public bus, at least in SG, are automatic transmission one?

heck is it auto or manual, there's clutch installed

Lock-up clutch works pretty much on the same principals.
Its like a hybrid between auto and manual, combining the auto's convenience with the elimination of the power loss from the torque converter.
I don't like the modified engines. Takes away the joy of riding the KUB. Now I prefer the newer KUBs cos they got the original engines. And is it just me, or is it the KUBs are super lousy? About 2 years into service some already turn into loud growling devils?

quite a no of them
But I'm more thinking is more of maintenance issue.
So far all of the old KUBs are like that, except 8496, the other day came on svc 15.
I really wish they could all go back to "normal".

8033 to 8561

I'm very tempted to call you "siao".
You know how terrible the jerks are?
Especially the transition from 5th to 4th.
I don't exactly get how the ZF6 works, but 4th to 5th is a rather interesting transition. Shifting up doesnt seem to require any movement from the lock-up clutch, but shifting down induces a really violent jerk. Its like machiam the clutch clutches in too quickly.
Good riddance to the engine-braking. And high-time too after all the negative feedback. In any case, with the exception of some SMRT buses, the vast majority of the ZF4/5s do not utilise engine-brake.
If the KUBs are super lousy, then the B9TL is worse under the context you define.
No wonder I noticed that many of the older KUBs are less jerky nowadays. It is time that they should have done some improvements on the jerkings.
If SBST really has done something on this, then kudos to them.
can they also do something to the CDGE B9TL to reduce the loud roar?
some of the OCs here in SMRT also gets its gearbox modified. SMB61J is one of them.

didnt noe they r capable of modifing gearbox aka transmission

And I don't know you are capable of writing or typing.

but i find 8212D different from the rest of the modified ones. This bus has very rapid and smooth gear change and the accelaration is very powerful. braking performance is also smooth and excellent.
Anyway what gearboxes does the Scania KUB EURO IVs and EEVs use???
ZF or Voith???
Are they still same after the modifications???

Euro IV uses ZF 6HP502C, Euro V uses ZF 6HP504C
No change after modification!

I noticed that gears 1 and 2 are stronger as compared to before the modifications.
