SBS Transit will be trialling a King Long diesel-eletric hybrid bus for a year, beginning mid 2011. The bus was brought in by King Long and ST Kinetics. If the trial is successful, they may mass purchase of such buses in future. SBS Transit has not decided which route the bus will serve at this point.
Diesel-eletric hybrid bus uses 23% less diesel than normal buses, and produces lesser exhaust smoke. There are many more advantages.

The other bus company SMRT said they are presently studying the feasibility of using eco-friendly buses, including hybrid buses and will release more details later.

Very interesting... this bus was firstly meant for smrtb/brickston, then they(stk) registered this bus, used it once during yog. then sent it to china for a exhibition, and now shipped it back to sg, and now meant for sbst instead. what a twist of fate

it dosent cost half a million. if it did, many operators would have bought it. a single wright b9 already cost half a million. the problem is Mercedes Benz do not have a production ready fuelcell/fuelcell hybrid vehicle yet. the older fuelcell vehicles were for trial, and the new fuelcell blueefficiency hybrid is only on trial in germany only. when its ready, then maybe its possible

I hope that in future these hybrid buses will get cheaper in future and SBST can buy in bulk for the European brands, like the Mercedes Benz Citaro F Cell, MAN Lion City hybrid and Volvo B5L Hybrid double deckers.
I get to know that ComfortDelgro is trialling the Volvo B5L Hybrid in UK. Wonder how is it???
