I notice some public buses r travelling too slow. I have several encounters with SBS buses of various routes travelling ard 30km/h, leaving a clear road ahead & slowing down before junction to see the light turning red! Torture for rushing commuters & other road users who dunno when to overtake the bus. Glad that I have no bad encounter with SMRT buses so far coz I only patronise their 851 & 857, not sure bout other routes though.
SMRT > schedule tight lesser buses need chiong
SBST > a lot of buses if BC chiong the bus can be early then company scold.

If u are rushing, dun blame the public transport system... Why? There are taxis available for u, anytime, anywhere... So u might end up being in the wrong if u tell off the Bus Captain/Service Leader for driving so slowly.
Why slow? Schedule. U are not the only one taking a bus, please do not be so selfish....
Nowadays, there are something called the "Bus Lane". So I don't see any issues with other road users who don't know when to overtake due to the bus travelling speed.... Of course, examples like Orchard Rd, Eu Tong Sen St, and others have traffic flow difficulty... But u can't always put the blame on buses... And, I'm not trying to be biased here.
Cheers.

It's not the case... Choing? If u are involved in an accident, ur bus no speed limiter/broken speed limiter, u can be penalized.... Choing for wad? Safety comes first.
The company won't scold? They would give u a warning first...

I dunno lah gt 1 time i ask a BC y drive so slow he say juz now he chiong then later reach int early kenna scoulded so he "man man lai"
i dunno what u talking some in fact a lot of SMRT buses chiong.
Really very slow sometimes. Mostly with SBS Buses.
Seriously, SBST would have hell lots of good frequencies if their buses can move faster.
SBS bus camptains are hopeless. have attitude

Captains u mean.
Because if they reach their destination terminals ahead of time, they will be penalised, and there annual bonus would be at stake, it was reported in the papers before.

you can't
as if the road dun have road works and so on that needs to be factored in
I hate SBST. All the buses are going too slowly. Every time someone complains to SBST about the speed, they nag on about the stupid frequencies. So why can't they just make the services less frequent but shorten the time schedule so that buses can go faster? We want an efficient transport system, and that mostly means that we want public transport to be fast. I really admire Hong Kong's bus services. Their buses go much faster and the bus captains do not hesitate to floor the pedal!

in Hong Kong there's alrdy quite a number of accidents.
furthermore the buses are using quite a fair chunk of expressways. what expressways do we have here?
furthermore, seriously it's not even good to go into speeding w/ so many hazards.

u want chiong can. wait accident all blame u lor.
Best is u in the bus then the bus overturn like the HK incident.
Accidents are few and far between. And Singapore's roads are much wider and far less congested than Hong Kong's. So that means applying Hong Kong's speeds here in Singapore is safe enough.

not everywhere is that wide as you mentioned
there's old roads w/ narrow left lanes
accidents in Hong Kong few and not terrible i.e. fatal?
Depend on the personality and age of the bus driver, passengers will find that the bus concerned is travelling very slow. Occassionally, young drivers will perform better than the older ones in terms of efficiency, service, care and concern towards the passengers.
For example, Bus No. 32. How many bus drivers will show their care and concern to the students boarding the bus when approaching a bus stop along Margaret Drive outside a primary school while pupils are standing at the edge of the bus stop and caused injury to the students concerned. This happen daily and I notice most drivers have a very bad attitude, "Tidak apa" attitude especially the older drivers.
So, who to blame? SBS should send investigate this matter.

very simple de
sometimes the kids these days...
Yes, i understand its not the BC's fault & empathise with their plight being under the penalty system. Its' the schedule tat needs to be looked into! But are the planners bus commuters themselves or they own cars?? Ppl who dun take bus will not understand the agony of travelling in slow buses.
And me definitely not expecting buses to chiong like F1 lah. But if they can increase those 'slow routes' to an average speed of 50km/h, tat will be good )

haiz
if there's traffic jam, ppl kpkb how come need to wait for very long.
The schedule is there for a reason - to regulate the buses in between. What if the front bus is empty, rear one happened to be packed. You dun regulate the front bus, isn't the headways going to get longer and longer as the journey continues?
Other factors incl traffic buildup during off peak - peak transition
Things are there for a reason.
That also explains why 506 is even less erratic than 985

506 is hopeless. trust me.

You siao ah? Never take theory test before? The MAXIMUM speed limit in Singapore, unless otherwise stated, is 50km/h.
The maximum speed limit for bus is 60km/h in Singapore, including when the bus is travelling the expressway.

nah..
The freq is quite reliable even w/ the jam on PIE.
985 is the real hopeless. Would have nothing but brunching and speeding
SBS double deck > Slow but smooth ride
SMRT Bendies > Fast but bumby
bendies wan fast and smooth must take the ZF ones between TIB1148J to TIB1187X and TIB1198P to TIB1207Y.
