i had applied thru online for the position on 22 Nov but as for now, still unproccesed.
I am thinking of going down to HGDEP(cos nearest to my place) on mon to walk-in interview to make things faster.
Do you think this is needed?
Secondly, does the depot u go to for walk-in interview becomes your actual depot when become BC?

u can choose to go for a walk-in interview if you don't receive your reply for quite some time, maybe say a week.
secondly, there are 3 depots available for you to go to for walk-in interview, namely AMDEP, HGDEP n SLBP. the depot u go to will most likely determine which district you will be assigned to. your actual depot you are assigned to might depend on how the HR shuffles.

it had been for more than 2 weeks, and while i just checked i accidentally applied again, but heck..i am going down on mon at earliest timing as possible(8AM).
How long will the thing go anyway, cos i gotta go for work at 11AM?

i would just settle for HGDEP districts(serangoon, sengkang, punggol) then. Is it possible to get posted to BNDEP since at east side also?

no problem. can also tell them that you have applied but receive no news on your application.
HGDEP is under the West District, while BNDEP is under the East district. i'm not sure if they have walk-in interview available at BNDEP, so nearent is AMDEP if you are interested in the East District. someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
hope to see you at AMDEP soon..

that's weird isn't it? HGDEP is more easternly than AMDEP does, and yet AMDEP is under east district?
anyway as mentioned in my previous post: what is the duration of the whole thing(from moment step into the interviewing depot and out of it)?

Originally posted by kengkia:u a BC based at AMDEP?

erm...Anything that is REALLY needed to bring along for the walk-in interview?
For those BC wannabe who might wanna know : NRIC , driving licence , highest educational original certificate.
i had digged up the sbs number and called them up, the duration of the interview is 1 to and 1.5 hrs, so i am going down there tmr, so see you QX179R.
Hi everyone,
I am a bus driver from Germany and had originally intended to go for a walk-in interview for a position as BC (I'm currently here in Singapore on holiday).
But I've spoken to someone with some insight and he told me point-blank that there isn't a chance in hell that SBS will employ a European as BC (that's also what they told me when I contacted them via e-mail).
So I think I'll skip the walk-in interview lah
Should I happen to come across a recruitment fair while exploring Singapore I will ask them whether or not it makes sense for me to apply.
So, I'll just have to continue driving buses in Germany then.
Are there any Singapore BCs here that would like to meet a German collegue? I'm staying in Little India.
Post a reply to this thread. I'll try to check replies daily, but can't guarantee it.
Greetings

Still, there's no harm trying for the position :) although you'd probably need to pick up mandarin first.

Maybe you can try SMRT if you can't get a job at SBST...

Maybe you should try the walk in interview first before concluding anything. Anyway a face to face talk with a recruiter will be able to help you more as you can directly convince them with your years of skills and experience and your interest to work with them as a BC in SBST.
An email will be doubtful to their HR since in Singapore, hardly anyone will really believe that an European will come down and work in menial jobs like a bus captain. To any Singapore HR point of view, such email could be unconvincing.
I think it is the best you go down and meet them and convince them your interest in applying the job.
If not, ask them what is the reason behind it, etc, employment laws, wages doesn't meet expectation or whatever reason. In this case, you can roughly know whether you should work in Singapore as a BC, in any company.

I don't think SMRT will employ him as well, think there is an employment law for hiring BCs in public bus companies.
Maybe he can try Hippo bus as a bus tour guide. Maybe there's a hihger chance. And to Chauffer: Our Hippo Bus is a city tour bus that bring tourists around Singapore City landscapes. And the fleet are mostly double deckers.
If you can't be a BC for SBST, maybe you can try applying as a BC for Hippo Bus.

Thanks very much for your encouraging words!
My motivation to work in Singapore has ONE reason and ONE reason ONLY:
I want to live in a tropical climate, the more tropical, the better!!
So now I am torn apart:
Should I try to get a job in Singapore with its perfect tropical climate or should I just stay in Germany where there's better pay (and living costs are lower) and also better working conditions (comfortable part-time position)?
Rather than walking in for an interview, I would like to come across a recruitment fair and check everything out there.
Thanks again, 'SBS 1000U', for your very helpful post, I appreciate that!

Update:
Just as i am planning to go down today for walk-in interview @ AMDEP @ 0800, sbs side called me yesterday and ask me to go down today for interview @AMDEP @0800 .
I had headed down to AMDEP for interview, took my eyesight test, and asked me to take medical test and bring along the medical result slip, bank book, and 6 passport sized photo.
According to the HR officer who interview me :

According to the HR officer who interview me :
- Working days 6 days per week with one day off, which day be of chosen by company.
- Working Hours : AM shift early morning while sky still dark(exact time forgotten by time of posting) to 1400/1500. PM shift 1430 to 0130. Split shift work 4 hrs on AM shift and 4hrs on PM shift. Point to take note new BCs cannot choose to do split shift.
- Basic pay S$1375, got 13th month bonus, got daily attendance allowance of S$2.50, got DD allowance. Basic will be increased year depending on individual performance.
- There will be 3 months of training(same as army BMT) , after which you will be posted to a bus interchange(i thought it's depot?). No choice of which interchange u wanna work at, you take whatever interchange they give you.
- At first i thought only lao chiao BC can drive DD until today, DD can be driven by new BCs as well as long there is in need of BCs to do DD svc.
welcome to the amdep family... hahaha. technically the HR officer is right, as even though you may be an AMDEP crew, you will have a permanent interchange / service. the 3 months training is for you to obtain your class 4A driving license. they will try to post you to an interchange that is as close to your residence as possible. where are you staying now?
i had long heard of this what and what not route group can anyone elighten me on this?
this thread will be closed once TS becomes a BC.
