dug out riao.
1) From Bt Timah 7th Mile/ KAP > Ten Mile (1 mi = 1.6km, = 4.8km). LTA stands by charging 5.8km.
2) Sv 179 dist diff... Cos distance is taken from both boarding pt and alighting pt. Hence 0.3km difference.
Might as well build roadside terminal.
3) Taxi charges distance fare, buses ought to do so.
Uncle, taxi is culmulative, bus is stop - stop? apa ini? Next charge stop time fare?
4) Braddell > Paya Lebar still using via CTH
Then the CCL doucu LTA say CCL help to relieve CTH/ RFP load. Fares still encourage everyone to cluster there
Our very well scholars.

Could there be a chance the CCL route is slightly longer than CTH route?

Nope
Because NSL > EWL $1.45. CCL is $1.40. Minus 15c premium is only $1.25
distance fare still cannot be compared to fare stage in accuracy

Its the premium that is imposed on the CCL.

even w/ premium is stil 5c cheaper
Don't know don't care, not everyone is so meticulous as sbst275 when it comes to buses and trains. Maybe because most of us have a life and have something else to be more concerned about.

How can you say that?
He is our future Minister of Buses.

Take a train then. It saves you 1km and does not have to stop at every bus stop.
Seriously, train uses tracks and do not travel on the exact same road with exact same bends. And the mile marker is not exactly at both bus stops. If you really want to measure the distance, may i suggest two ways.
1. Take a car and use the distance counter.
2. Walk with a gps unit along the road and use the logging feature to log the distance.

DTL option is still a distant to think of , wait 15c premium?
The mile marker is pretty accurate, 6.5 fare stages clocked for 170 under fare stage system.
The ironic part fare stage measurement sort of came from the imperial system
0.8km = ~ 1/2 mile

Fare stages are rounded DOWN to the nearest 400meters. Each fare stage approximately is 800m, which means 6.5 fare stage is approximately 5.2km to 5.6km. How is the mile marker accurate compared to this distance may i know?

is not even rounded down. It's culmulative round up/ down.
Tat explains how come duplicating routes having diff fare stage changes along e same bus stop pairs in e past in some instances.
But in this case, 170 & 961 share almost the same stage reading.

It is never rounded up, just like how supermarkets charge your $1.04 by rounding down to $1. If the fare was rounded up, we as commuters would have been overcharged for years.

once it's culmulative, it's not alrdy
Sat 66's case along Dunearn Rd. Maybe it'd clocked 11.4km alrdy (14 fare stage), next stop is 550m, it would end up 15 fare stage because of the total dist clocked.
It same goes to buying items at supermarket. Say items at $0.46, $1.12, $1.54, $19.92, total is $23.04. It can't be rounding every item indv done first.

fare stages system... theres good and bad la..
eg. those feeder trunk hybrids 101 112 113 163, also 163 etc.. the first fare band covers the feeder fare.. now DBTF.. no more liao... 160 and 170 can also collect more fares.
DBTF in a nutshell, also benefits the operators.. things like 1m round up to 100m, 40m round up to 200m... charging people longer distance and higher price when theres a shorter way...
next time CCL opens.. HBF to Tai Seng all charge by CCL line like that... cos its direct altho slow and expensive.
ultimately, these schemes never benefit consumers in the long run.
in summary: more good years ahead!

the loser from DBTF are those who operate mostly MRT/ LRT.
160 & 170 is epic la, cos of Dr M's pet crooked bridge project lengthening travelling distance.
