STOMPer Lee says demand for buses far
exceeds supply in the Bukit Panjang area. Services 184, 190, 700, 960
and 966 all leave commuters stranded regularly at peak hours there.
Lee explains the situation:
"Every morning, Bukit Panjang commuters face problems boarding SMRT bus services 184, 190, 700, 960 and 966.
"Service
966 is the worst among the five. It makes a total of six stops here,
but by the time it reaches the second bus stop, some commuters are left
stranded to wait for the next bus.
"An average of ten commuters
are left stranded on average to wait for the next bus which comes every
10 - 16 minutes, according to SMRT website.
"Many students also face problems boarding 184 in Bukit Panjang, where it is common to miss two to three buses from 7am to 9am.
"Matters are made worse with the recent cuts in the SMRT fleet.
"Similarly,
services 190, 700, and 960 heading to the CBD also face the same
problems, with commuters left stranded even though buses are packed to
the very last step before moving off.
"The problem is certainly
not caused by commuters' unwillingness to move behind, but the
insufficient number of buses plying the routes as demand simply exceeds
supply.
"I hope SMRT can do something about the frequency of its buses during peak hours."
For 960 current deployment its fairly acceptable with additional 2 buses and time revised but still need improvement during PM peak.
190 cant comment much,2-4 mins per bus during peak also jammed packed and several occasion i notice there are selfish commuters who refuse to move to the rear.
700 need more bendys,Peak hours is good at 6-8 mins interval but the monent it left Bt Panjang int the rigid ardy 3/4 full.Need 4-5 bendys.
966 improve the freaking freq,
184 no comment
transfer some of these services to SBST...
anyway, all the demand are almost one directional.. so also headache for SMRT.. 40 buses for Sv190 go to town in the morning, but more than half of it off service back to CCK to start new trips? this is a problem face by the bus operators.. they can add until 50 buses for sv190, but in the end, most of the buses are empty on the return trip... or have to off service back to CCK..
Tell them to hold on until DTL starts running.

dun forget SBS used to dispatch 43 ADD and 1 SD on 190 before handover.
Now is just some 30 bendy, 10 rigids?
I think hor, even scheduling very weird. Like 963, peak within peak 3 - 5 mins, outside can be 18 mins.

Not forgetting Bukit Panjang's population has doubled since Tibs tookover from SBS.
Considering 1 double decker = 1 bendy, 1 bendy = 2 rigid,
43 buses by SBS, 35 buses [30 + (10/2)] by SMRT. Population doubled, suggesting 86 buses, but only 35 buses deployed. shortage 43 buses.
Not forgetting there are more seats for double deckers.
They've to deploy staff la, esp 270 tat one
bendy so long, how driver see rear is full or not.
but since want cheap want fresh, likely wun bother.. can meet QoS 95% also wat.. haha

The bus is really full, especially service 960.
Service 190 sometimes attributed to commuters' unwillingness to move towards the back.
Recommendations to improvements
Service 184 - 2 more full day bendy slots.
Service 190 - 4 more full day bendy slots.
Service 700 - 4 split shift rigid slots replaced by 4 bendy split shift slots.
Service 960 - 2 more full day bendy slots.
Service 966 - 2 more full day rigid slots and 4 bendy split shift replacing 4 rigid split shift.
Summary:
8 more full day bendy slots,
2 more full day rigid slots,
Replacement of 8 split shift rigids to 8 split shift bendies.

Then the commuters only have themselves to blame because of hteir inconsiderate behaviour. I am sure those who complained that they can't board the bus due to the crowds are equally guilty of hogging the space between the driver and the exit doors.

Yeah, but for 184, 700, 960, 966.. there simply isnt enough buses!
For 184 and 960 there's enough buses but timing isnt right,As for 700/966 yes there isnt enough bendies for peak hours and dampened by hardcore SLs who chiong just to escape places with high load boarding.SMRT SLs 25% of them are ex-SBST BCs with bad track record so its natural for them to play this kinda of games.I've ever encountered while driving sv 61 in the AM peak reaching Queensway towards HBF where this sv93 bc purposely let me pass so that the crowds at there took my bus towards HBF

Svc 61? Good luck to all BCs on that route.

61's schedule been gone case since SMRTB came in.
It is kinda true for the bus 184. Bus are always packed whenever it hits the bukit panjang cc bus-stop. It is so much worse when let say in the evening when students are going home from SIM , Ngee Ann Poly. Bus are so packed that one will have to wait up to at least 3 bus before boarding. Calculating the time lost while waiting for this buses, we are screwed

Every service also need to have bendy..
Get from where ? lols.

the bus depot?lol or is it possible to increase the freq of these services and just add more rigids...like 966, even during peak hour it takes like forever to come
Return some routes to SBST is one of the solutions....

61, 67, 169, 171, 178, 925, 961, 975, 980 are many others were from SBS

Tibs introduced Service 160 and 167 when it first started, so 980 is definitely not from SBS.

all of Tibs routes except these were from SBS entirely.

*Likely to be a taken over service which SBS had planned to operate.

Not west, but north.
Bukit Panjang is North West.
