SINGAPORE: Transport Minister Raymond Lim on Monday travelled on bus service 960 to observe for himself the frequency and passenger load situation in Bukit Panjang, after services were increased during the morning peak period since July.
Photos of Mr Lim's visit with officials were posted on the ministry's Facebook page.
Mr Lim was also in Bukit Panjang to look at improvements made to the bus stop in front of Block 270, which had been extended and had an arrival information panel installed.
The ministry said the situation in the area has improved.
Commuters can now use the real-time bus arrival information to decide if they want to board a bus that has arrived or wait for the next one.
Passengers are also able to board or alight the bus easily, as there's no tailback of waiting buses, as was the case in the past.
The ministry said Mr Lim makes such unannounced trips on buses and trains to get a better feel of the situation on the ground.
It also helps officials see first-hand the impact of measures implemented to improve the public transport system.
Mr Lim last visited the same area in June.

June take once.
Sept take once.
problem solved. case closed.
Been like that for so many years already, only election coming then take public transport to observe.
Can he try taking the train during rush hour one day? Take the SMRT CEO along with him too. Unannounced please.

I take buses from this particular bus stop....
I believe he visited the bus stop minutes before the peak hour ends.... The bus stop is quite crowded during peak hour...
And also he couldnt possibly have been able to move the rear of the bus if he had boarded from the bus stop... at the very best, normal days.. he should be able to board the bus.... have the stand... but probably in the middle cabin and not the rear of the bus....
And it doesnt look unannounced with so many delegates following him... and with cameras to prove he was there at that time.
he shd try 190 from orchard road at 6pm
that is, if he can get on it in the first place.
well, maybe on the 3rd bus.
and if he still cant, he can try the MRT, north-south line.

Scotts Road bus stop maybe....
Sometimes the bus bunch up at Orchard Road... so got chance... =)
Either he takes the bus every day for a month, or he sits at the bus stop for three hours everyday with a clip board and tally the buses as they come.
Then he will get a better feel of the situation on the ground.
Take bus one day, with officials and photographers, is for the purposes of looking good only.
Services might improve for a few days afterwards, then it will go back to "normal".
From the picture it's proof that the public transportation is functioning perfectly, bus not crowded at all, it's because Singaporeans like to complain.
Maybe can decrease the frequency of some bus services to improve profit margin.
taking the bus one time does not do anything. state of mind and sense of time is totally different.

got ppl sit at bus stop with clipboard already during morning peak hours.. but he's not the one la.. lol..
it's all for election, of course.
The arrival info panel, service 171, notice the 18 minutes frequency for the second bus, after first bus had departed. 18 minutes frequency during morning peak hours.
I wonder did they saw it or not?
Why would they notice? They are just there for the reporters to take pictures for the record that the minister did do his job. Like MBT said, everything is for the elections. Likewise for no RWS free shuttle services to the heartlands.

Pity we only get to see and hear good news every 5 years. Once election is over, all the wayang ends and the bad news come.

Not really accurate the arrival info panel.
That time I took TIB1063U on 187. When it arrived at the last stop, it shows:
Arr 20
But the fact is, the next bus (TIB576M) coming was around 10mins
The other time
When I took SMB132M on 187, the display did not show:
Arr **
Instead it displayed,
Back to topic:
The next bus 18 mins is probably due to jam at: Bukit Timah/City Area
