Wow, good to see same model own by 2 different companies. It's been a long time ever since last was UD. Btw, was SMRT purchases for Citaro finalised?
Cheers.
Look out for the MB CITARO EURO V models from CMN!

Finally SBST/SMRT brought same bus model since Nissan U31 during ex SBS/TIBS days
last year: SBS trails MB OC500LE, then sold to Chitson.
this year: SBS buys MB Citaro.
why do SBS copy SMRT????????

did SMRT order any Citaro? they are still doing the 1 year trial only...and then will evaluate on whether to buy or not to buy..

Its funny on how everyone thinks that SBST sold the OC to chitson when the bus wasnt even own by SBST in the very first place.

Did SMRT place any orders for the Citaros ?

Sometimes it could be possible for the Citaros to come in 1 batch for both SBST and SMRT (if they decide)

SBST never buy the OC at all... and why did you think SBST copy SMRT? SBST straight away bough the Citaros... did SMRT bought the Citaros? it is still doing the one year trial.. and will SMRT really buy the citaros? no one know.
think mercedes have offer SBST a very good price/packages for these 300 Citaros after seeing SBST buying 1100 Scania..... SBST one time order 300 Citaros, and how much will SMRT order? They order nothing and go and refurnished nissan and claims that they are new buses......
SBST depreciation cost will go up very high...
last year 2009, its depreciation cost is S$40 million... based on the estimated figures of S$865 million for all the new buses bought since 2006, one year depreciation cost is around S$72 million (based on 12 years and without considering any interest cost etc)....

i like your last statement. thumbs up.
SMRT ordered the OC500LE while SBST which handled out tenders got in return an OC500LE for demonstration purposes and during pending for acquisition to SBST was rejected as it had other plans, it was then later offered to Chitson and a cheaper price.
SBST on the other hand ordered the more prestigious, classy and durable Citaro while SMRT which acquired a Citaro unit for free from Mercedes for demonstration purposes as SMRT was interested in ordering buses. SMRT has still not ordered any but moved on to refurbishing buses.

to add on, it's a simple comparison.
when KUB and OC500LE were offered, both were low-entry buses with high rear steps, but OC cost 20% more. logical to procure KUB.
now, when C&C offered a low-floor Citaro which cost the same as the low-entry KUB. logical to buy Citaro's. $367k is a steal.

But then it is lesser buses???
Suppose they replace 300 Mark 3 with 300 single deck.... OK. Same... But the double- deckers????
300 double deckers to replace 500 double deckers? [(200x Leyland Olympian 3 Axle, 100x Volvo Olympian 2 Axle, 200x Volvo Olympian 3 Axle (Batch 1)]
Let's evaulate...
200 B9TL: MK2
1100 KUB: CRB, MBO405, 200 MKIII
150 B9TL: 150 LO3x
300 Citaro: 100 MKIII, 150 Strider MK4? 50 in lieu of upcoming devt SUTD, Seletar.
300 B9TL: 50 LO3x, 100 VO2x, 150 VO3x (Left 50 from pionner VO3x batch).
Interesting to note it's likely VO2x replaced by ADD, nong time never see riao.

There's serious merit for Enviro 400.
go take a ride on 334's turning into Jurong West St 42 would tell you abt 2x ADD.
But so far even in HK it's all in small amt.
