All that money gone just because some grassroots leader brought the issue up to his MP, and then MCYS. I doubt anyone else made noise about those buses till then. He must think every farking person on those buses must be going to gamble like that. That's what the $100 and $2000 levy is for mah.
There are people who go to RWS for the entertainment, food, and free transport to the sentosa, not to forget some of the coaches that ply to malaysia also.
Geez, so much for promoting sentosa to singaporeans.

yeap.
It was supposed to be $1.80 flat fare, to be intro in March/ April aft IR 'fully' open.
I guess e RWS88 effect & 188R/ 963R's realistic demand to RWS itself excl Vivo made SMRT think twice.

The government should not have make this decision precisely, they can convert from free shuttle services to flat fare services instead. Due to gov's wrong move, the rice bowl of BCs had been affected greatly. There is no difference either SMRT or other companies earn revenue at RWS as long as the gov benefits afterall.
no pt seriously.
SMRT also gotta spend more $$ n resources, there's still a basic cost incurred. Tat same goes to SBS or other PTOs.
Not to mention for RWS8 esp, outbound is FOC. For all we may know, ppl take monorail into Sentosa being faster than RWS8, return take RWS8. There's tis possibility tat cannot be discounted.
Originally posted by tranquilice:According to the evening newspapers today, the 5 bus operators providing the RWS shuttles have invested a total of $2,000,000 to buy new buses and to hire bus drivers.
With the sudden enforcement by the government, the money are going to the drains. An estimated 100 bus drivers will lost their jobs.
All thanks to the government!
bigger domino effect.
Those PRC buses would end up have to lelong out. Furthermore w/ so many diff PRC bus brands and dist, sure end up likely occurance of cessation of selling buses to S'pore to occur.
Then those current users who might need spare parts for bigger overhaul will also get affected.

Yes, all these are politics.
I don't understand why PAP is doing this before the election. In fact, if they want to they should do it after the election.
Now PAP is in damage control mode, but they are doing more damages to Singaporeans and coming out with bullshits and lame excuses with their millions dollar salary.
Do we want this type of political party to govern Singapore for another 50 years? First thing we can do is to vote alternate parties into parliament to deny PAP the two-third majorty at this coming election.
Malaysians have done it, are Singaporeans ready?
I'd be less pissed if the shuttles were 'suspended indefinitely pending investigations' rather than just pulling out the plug in an instant.
OT: RWG did not offer free shuttles to 'nearby heartlands' is due to the fact that it's situated up on a mountain. The nearest 'heartland' is a good 30 minutes drive. It does not make any economical sense to provide free shuttle to points in Klang Valley whose travelling time are no less than 60 minutes per direction. Then again, I don't see the Malaysian authorities trying to stop these shuttles from KL. They still do promote Genting as a one-stop leisure destination for families.

Update
Private operator are thinking of countering by applying for paid shuttle service. Only issue is shuttle or express sv framework would not be allowed to be applied.

The fee will be 1.5 times more than than the public transport one if the private operator wants to 'preserve' the routes.
But the thing is: Will people willing to pay so much money to enter RWS?
This thread is akin to Speaker's Corner forum.

how much does it cost.
Say from Jurong East.
$1.41 for Sv 97 ride, 72c for 188R ride. So it adds up to $2.13... 50% more is $3.20 per ride..
Kids is min $1.32
Or from Tampines.
$1.85 + $0.65 resp: $3.75.
Kids is min $1.55.
They said public tpt wat, I can use 188R/ 963R to compare..
pwned
sian. just when i thought next time go sentosa can take this. now must take train to OTP > NEL to HBF > monorail/RWS8 to RWS.
or from AMK.
$1.64 + $0.68: $3.50.
Kids: min $1.55.
or from Redhill MRT.
81c + 88c: $2.55
Kids: $1.25 min.
I'll spill e cheapest fare tabulation.. and 50% basis.
Got loophole de. Jurong East, Tampines, AMK, Redhill mentioned le.
From Bt Merah Ctrl: 855 > 188R/ 963R total fare $1.61. (Min $2.50)
From Queenstown: 93 > 188R/ 963R total fare $1.81. (Min $2.80)
From Holland V: Sv 970 > 100 > 188R/ 963R total fare $1.85. (Min $2.80)
From Bt Panjang: 963R fare $2.30. (Min $3.50)
From CCK: 188R fare $2.35. (Min $3.60)
From Bishan: MRT > 188R/ 963R @ HBF total fare $2.24. (Min $3.40)
From Tiong Bahru: 5/ 123/ 195 > 65 > 188R/ 963R total fare $1.61. (Min $2.50)
From Bedok: 30 > 188R/ 963R total fare $2.24 (Min $3.40).

weekdays leh?
RWS should have charge S$2 per trip to RWS and S$2 per trip from RWS initially instead of giving it as free shuttle....i dun think there will be many aunties/uncles taking these shuttle liao...
now there are excess buses already... someone should complain to the government and ask why SMRT isnt using their RWS8 buses for normal services instead such as putting these 10 buses on Sv190.... ask them to give up RWS8 to these private operators instead.. haha...
188R 963R NR1 and NR6 should also be banned in this case.. but never..
possible SMRT ppl kpkb lost earnings.. political based..
I saw a PTE double decker bus like those going to genting operate as Premium Service moving to RWS I do not see the number cleary 76... or 75... something.

Use those 10 bus to replace those UDs and ELBOs. I hope someone will really highlight to SMRT about this, espeically from those poorly served services. Let's see what kind of stories and double standards are they going to present.

188R & 963R was they think they can get direct passengers, to realise most take to Vivo nia.
Anyway, I spot one former RWS free shuttle bus (PZ1495*) on worker's service today at Boon Lay Way. (Towards Boon Lay direction)

from the Straits Times...
THE two integrated resorts (IRs) violated casino restrictions and safeguards not just by providing free shuttle services to locals, Parliament was told on Wednesday.
One of them, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) promoted its casino rewards programme at heartland shopping malls and 7th month Hungry Ghost events, said Minister of of Community Development, Youth and Sports Vivian Balakrishnan.
'I am very sure that they were not trying to entice hungry ghosts with the free food or cheap food at the casinos,' he said in Parliament, when explaining why the free shuttle bus services in the HDB heartlands and Central Business District areas provided by the IR were halted abruptly by the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) last Friday.
RWS provided free bus rides at 19 pick-up points, most of which were in the heartlands and CBD areas.
'They were clearly not part of the public transport network. These buses also operated very long hours, up to 10.30pm on weeknights and up to 2.30am on weekends and the eves of public holidays. These late hours meant that most of the facilities at the RWS would be closed, except for the casino,' said the minister.
The other IR, Marina Bay Sands offered a paid premium bus service at 12 pick-up points covering the CBD and Orchard areas. The fares were redeemable at food and beverage outlets, some of which were in the casino.
