Hence, they come up with a veyr good excuse that this can decrease number of people to go there and bet. CRAP!!! 60% of people utilise it for USS. And Gov also 'disallows' Singaporeans to go there and bet. Mainly for PRs, tourists to do so.
now gotta look out for e traffic mess at tat Telok Blangah junction.
The traffic light timing is alrdy terrible enough, not to say e expected increasing traffic volume.

Agree...
I always notice that there is a huge jam at the Sentosa Gateway esp during PM Peak and sometimes during major events.. You can check the online traffic cameras if you really want to prove it out.

Even 'smuggling' there through all your means without being noticed also cannot.... Have to pay the fee regardless of walking or taking by any mode of transportation unless you are a very pro swimmer who can swim from HBF to Sentosa.
Now, gov depends on Sentosa currently to earn more revenue since it is one of the interests for tourists to go there.

Government's 2 ways to attract tourists to RWS:
1. From Changi Airport to RWS
2. From Johor Baharu to RWS
I think the reason is simple: Snatch the business from Resort World Genting.

Genting's biz is alrdy affected by our 2 IRs.. If else why would Genting been so interested when e govt gave e green light back in 2005?
From JB <> MBS/ RWS would have 2 svs from each sides...
Singapore Operated
1) Kota Raya II <> Newton. 2) Kota Raya II <> RWS. 3) Kota Raya II <> MBS. 4) Kota Raya II <> Changi Airport.
Malaysia Operated
1) Kota Raya II <> RWS. 2) Kota Raya II <> MBS. 3) Kota Raya II <> Yishun. 4) Kota Raya II <> Boon Lay.

RWS68 is the one from Outram Park MRT, correct? Now TS8 takes the business.

Actually the real reason is our government want us to take SMRT services to RWS. It's due to the relationship between SMRT and Temasek Holdings. Our government eyes turn sore red when it sees so many taking the free shuttle.

The $2 entrance fee is not even worth a peanut to Singaporeans.
If not for the universal studios and casino, no Singaporeans will bother to go Sentosa.

Other than North West Areas and City Hall, the free shuttle does not really duplicate with the SMRT RWS services. The government should not have make this decision precisely, they can convert from free shuttle services to flat fare services instead. Due to gov's wrong move, the rice bowl of BCs had been affected greatly.
There is no difference either SMRT or other companies earn revenue at RWS as long as the gov benefits afterall.

If the free services are converted to flat fare services, how many will still want to take them? For sure there will be a drop in the numbers of passengers.
I heard on the news that the bus operators are going to retrench about 100 bus drivers.

I agree with you. Private transport is still the way to go to avoid all those unnecessary frustrations caused by public transport woes, which are in fact fully controlled by the government.

Welfare for foreigners only, so called welfare for its own citizens. It won't be surprising if we see another group of Singaporeans leaving this country in time to come.
More good years ahead!

One good example, is for LTA to take over the Centralised Bus Planning .... see what constructive works have they done to our congested bus services... nothing.. Only push the blame on the route congestion and need to do away with long haul bus route.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a disaster that LTA to be taking over the Centralised Bus Planning. Now it will get more inconvenient to go around places in Singapore via public transport.
What's more good we can get from these people up there anyway since the past 10 years? More foreigners, more GST, more ERP, more expensive cars and housing, less personal space, less jobs, less pay, less freedom, etc.
These pea brained people will forever think that Singaporeans are taking these free shuttle bus services just for crowding into the casino and gambling, while the Universal studios theme park, MBS hotels and shopping malls will be empty because all Singaporeans just go to casinos. What an insult to Singaporeans. So the shopping malls, hotels and theme park are not the main attractions to Singaporeans at all? Then what for build them in the first place? Why do we see so many Singaporeans go to these places for leisure then?
Just hope one day, both casino operators will be so angry with all these limitations in their business here and pull out their operations in Singapore one day. Let's see what these pea brained people are going to say.
And because of their nonsensical and abrupt approach of doing things, look at the newspapers today, how much private bus operators have lost? And how many Singaporeans are going to be out of job just because of this? Building these integrated resorts will bring more benefits to Singaporeans, what a pack of lies.

Please for the greater good for Singaporeans, let's hope SMRT will lose more money in future, get de listed from SGX, and close its operations and pass the operations to a truly private company, with zero linkage with the government.

Just look at today's paper, how many Singaporeans are going to be affected and how our local companies have to bear such losses.
If these services really affect Sinagporeans going to RWS, then SMRT should withdraw RWS8 and RWS88 too.
Just by looking at this episode, we can seriously reflect how badly the transportation system is being managed here. I seriously doubt that there is hardly any competition for this industry here as private operators are time to time again given a cold shoulder when trying to operate bus services here. Looking forward for a 3rd transport operator here, I think it will be almost impossible as this will only mean jepardising the revenues of the government, which instead another foreign operator should bring more benefits to the commuters instead. Thus they make it very hard for private operators to enter the tightly controlled market time to time again.
Double standards.
Next thing you know, those heartland shuttle services will come back, but managed by SBST, or SMRT, and won't be free.
According to the evening newspapers today, the 5 bus operators providing the RWS shuttles have invested a total of $2,000,000 to buy new buses and to hire bus drivers.
With the sudden enforcement by the government, the money are going to the drains. An estimated 100 bus drivers will lost their jobs.
All thanks to the government!
