It will be another story if SMRT is the operator of the free services. Govt wants to earn the money themselves rather for the private operators.

well it's unlikely for SMRT to operate e shuttles in tat scale. dun forget e gag order on TIB/ SMB plates during peak hrs.
actually I dun see it tis way, lesser $$ spent on these buses = more taxable profit on e gambling tax for e govt. Tat is since they decide to micromanage looking at e Casino only, w/o looking at USS.
e likely problems for those affected.
1) Pte Bus operator: Excess drivers.
2) Mostly PRC bus distributor: Fate to lelong those now unwanted buses. Likely more competition on a smaller demand.
3) More demand for Sentosa Express, more packed.
4) Lesser family crowd to expect from USS - likely to affect takings.
Seriously the SCHOLARS who gave out e INTEGRATED RESORTS license forgot e name they term e concept?
The 5% Casino area rule is they set, must have theme park or MICE is also they set one...

i've seen families boarding the shuttle buses with the drivers willingly allowing the storage area to be filled up with strollers.
this is especially crucial for families where entry to sentosa for a party of 4 would be $12. exclude grandparents tagging along.
forcing them to take the cab or even to go public say from tampines, EWL to Outram Park, walk to NEL, alight, take the monorail is troublesome.
with a full family, it'll definitely take approx 1hr 15mins minimum. besides, in our forever-packed-anytime-of-the-day trains, how to go out as a family happily? you can't force them to get a car right? are we not encouraging public transport and reducing carbon footprint?
worried about the elderly going casino? their monies are locked up in CPF already by the govt too. fret not, they just go sentosa to see see look look new places... they are afterall very free people.
time to rethink where i wanna set up a family now. don't want my life to be meddled so much.
It is still better to get your own car.
I still want to buy my own car when I can afford to buy one in future.

parking isn't cheap.. n its likely car usage cost to go up w/ zero % growth car population measures

Then stop increasing the population, Singapore cannot afford to cater the needs for the increasing population. We are good enough with 4 million people in Singapore. No need so many people crowded in a small country fighting for resources and space and get over charged for these because of limited resources and space.
I don't mind taking a bus everyday to school and work, but not for leisure and entertainment with my friends and family. Imagine being broken up by crowds in buses and MRT and couldn't feel the closeness and saying anything private we want with our family and friends. I don't want this kind of life for my family in future.
Car growth population is still possible, else many Singaporeans are going to make a lot of noise in future. And don't forget car sales are still one of the factors that move the local retails up and a revenue for the govt. And who are going to fund for the road infrastructures and expansions the govt have done in the past, present and future??? The car owners, of course. Just that to cater the needs for Singaporeans to own a car, and limited land space, we might see more elevated roads and undergorund tunnel roads in future.

yeah lor. isn't that enough of a deterrent, along with the $100 levy? what's a bus ride costing a few dollars to these punters if they are bent on going to the casino? that's why most of the shuttle users are going to the resort's other non-gaming facilities.

i have a car. and was intending to take the free shuttle next time i go sentosa in the name of reducing carbon footprint & going public (of course, to the govt if you are reading my post, not going for the casino)
now cannot. hahahaha.

this is true.
i've seen families of four where the dad and daughter enter by this door of the MRT and the mother and son enter by the next door. that's not how a family goes out.

Not just families, sometimes some of my friends got stuck in the front of the bus while some of us managed or in fact, advised by the BC to move in so that more people can board the bus. In the end, our conversation got cutted. sad.
But while in my friend's car, we can chatted happliy and loudly from start till the end of journey.
And think of our parents who grow old in future, do you want them to walk up and down, to and fro, just to make multiple transfers to go to a place???
And our kids, especially when they are so small and babies using prams??? I don't want to make my family to carry so many things and walk and wait so much, just to make transfers again and again to go to a place. Then might as well we stay at home to be couch potatoes.

Ignore what the govt is saying. Most of the time what they are thinking are already out of touch with Singaporeans.
If you are worried about carbon footprint, buy a hybrid/electric car or opt for installing a CNG tank in your car. You still save the environment while having a good time with your family.
All I can say is we have a bunch of bird brain policy formulated people on the top...... who knows nothing about the civilian life.....
One good example, is for LTA to take over the Centralised Bus Planning .... see what constructive works have they done to our congested bus services... nothing.. Only push the blame on the route congestion and need to do away with long haul bus route.

as far as I know tat long haul rt wasn't targeted at all long haul rt...
but in any case, e issue of finding a terminating pt for them supercede e possibility of splitting e route up.

Sometimes I wondered what's the point of building so many MRT lines in such a small country where taxpayers' monies can be spent on something more worthwhile.
To show the world that Singapore's transport system is the most advanced or to build for the sake to throw in more population in future??? What's the point when Singaporeans are still unhappy with such systems that are inflexible while space constraining for an individual and not being pro family at all???
Rather this money can be well spend on our basic needs, such as water needs, where ironically we are still being bullied by Malaysia to buy water decade after decade and drink water from other people's urine recently where Singapore is surrounded by seawater. We can't even produce our own water from proper means and resources around us. Then what is the point of bring more people into Singapore, where we should bring in foreigners who can help us convert seawater to our drinkable water, rather than bringing in more foreigners to fight with us for the demand of drinkable and usable water and bringing up the prices once resources becomes limited???

end of e day, MRT only meant to serve heavy corridor... serve here n there, so many stops no use le. tat's why buses need to be ard.
talk abt cost factor.
eh.. water issue is diff... it's all thks to their threat to cut off water supply if they not happy, tat boys gotta do NS, SAF was created, self sufficiency in water was sought. Not to say trying as far as possible to live w/o them for food supply.

We can expect SMRT to roll out more services from the heartlands.
First 963R, second 188R, what's next? 61R? 855R? RWS888?

Our very smart government want to increase population to 6.5 millions. But then recently there's even a smarter one, he's the ex-chief of HDB and URA, he said Singapore has no problem accomodating 7.5 millions.

I guess it's a look see approach, especially 188R & 963R's demand is mostly up to HBF and return leg there's no stable loading.
Dun forget RWS68 is as good as miscarriage.
