I travell through bus 87 thousands of times. Normally when they do prunning, they normally park their vehicle onto the grass patch due to the road's intensity. half the vehicle would be on the grass patch and the other half on the road

And I'm sure he is slow enough to have stopped the bus in 8 metres from the point of impact to the end of impact, and that takes into account reaction time too. I don't understand where the 20 metres come from, when the length of the bus itself is only 12 metres.
finally. someone that talk sense. with facts even.

Most likely the whole celling of the bus may fall and cause more deaths.

even if the BC was driving at 20kmh the damage would most likely be largely similar to what had happened. but which reasonable driver would do 20kmh along a trunk road and moreover, had assessed to have sufficient side clearance to move faster than that?
Dont ask me stupid questions like "are u the accident investgator?" when I am obviously not and neither anyone of us here are.
When u are the captain of the bus and their lives is in your hands, it doesnt kill to go slow when u about to overtake something so huge and tall.
Do note that I am not defending the worker who operates the crane.
I have been typing and typing to get my point across.
SLOW DOWN WHEN U ARE NOT SURE.

I said previously, if the speed of the bus is slow enough, the outcome wont be so horrible.
Did u read carefully and fully comprehend what i meant?
Even if he were stationary, if the beam swung through the upper deck, there's nothing the bus driver can do.
Of course, travelling at a slower speed will help, but how slow do you think it takes to be safe when something comes crashing at you? If everything can be ideally slow such that the outcome won't be so horrible, then I think we have the perfect remedy to reduce the chances of a collision: drive at snail's pace and stop immediately at any signs of danger.

And so what makes u so sure that the bus didnt slow down and was speeding ?
And prove or facts to support ur claim ?
Including pics from opp direction

are you sure that the driver did not exercise the due diligence necessary in that situation? it doesn't kill to go slow but what makes you think that he was going fast in the first place?

So based on what our dear friend had mentioned, from now onwards, Buses must overtake stationary vehicles at least 1 car lane away. Also, they must drive at less than 10km/h and be prepared to stop anytime.

First, like to point out that i already say that the road's traffic is high. How to slow when you are already slow. 10Km/hr or 0km/hr? Anyone drive as caution to 10km/hr? Ask someone who drives a 5ton, they are already driving at max 50km/hr so slowing down for them is 20km/hr

he was unsure.
he slowed down.
the crane still hit the bus.
he stopped.
one dead.
end of story.

How slow is slow? Maybe he was travelling at 25km/h and slowing down to 10km/h.... so shall we set a rule to limit it to 5km/h? But then, it doesn't kill to go at 1km/h too right? There's no ideal number for anyone to throw around.

NOt forgetting that the bus wasnt travelling straight. It just made a turn into that accident scene.

I got no proof.
Neither do u have proof the bus driver was slow.
I am purely speculating.
Not a crime to do that here yah.

siao liao. my bus rides are going to take twice as long. filtering from left lane to right lane to left lane all the while.

The picture tells a lie, there is a bus stop just in front of the bus.

Then stop accusing the driver of not driving any slower than you believe he should...

I think you should drive a heavy vehicle 1st before realising can you brake as like a car or even gotta look out for height hazard (for tis case can't w/ blind spot).
I think you're still thinking buses can be speeding at 90km/hr.
and how slow is slow? 10km/hr?
In any case, e metal material at any speed can kill alrdy.

but thats what our friend is suggesting...
Isnt it?
If don't trim tree branches, then see this : http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgseen/this_urban_jungle/414724/fallen_tree_branch_on_double_decker_bus_causes_aye_jam.html

There's proper proof.
The bus was entering tis road from Bedok North Ave 1 by a left turn (the one where you saw cars turning in from e news video). how fast can e bus go?
as for your slow down thesis, in reality is judged according to the hazard.

This is another case of someone who doesnt take the public transport.
He thinks that our VOs are equipped with a V12 engine with maybe 600hp.
Right after making a left turn, it can speed from 10 - 90km/h in less than 5sec.

yeah. and not forgetting how dangerous it is to filter around lanes unnecessarily...
Originally posted by muziq bus:gosh gosh. this is not a car mind you. its a class 4 vehicle. if you see a that type of lorry with a crane on the side of the road, you must be aware of the potential hazard that the lorry might do.
i agree. class 4 vehicles are not the same as driving a car.
i've driven things which are like 4.3m high and weighs 18 tonnes.
currently driving something which is even heavier and is 17metres long.
if you pay attention to only hazards and not potential hazards, then seriously, dont even think of driving something beyond class 3 vehicles. sheeesshh..
the problem is this crane is so tall and unlike a SAF tonner tat's so tall, the ADD driver seat is covered by e upper deck.
in any case SAF tonner has danger lurking (not going to mention anything).
