CNA said the boom was being retracted back when it happened.
My take on it is that while it was being retracted, part of it intruded into the middle lane where the bus was travelling.

alamak
in such cases, ought to have someone around on e road to stop vehicles.
from wat it looks it could even hit those vans w/ taller shelter

sometimes can't blame e BC because he/ she might not be able to look out, the crane could even be retracting as the bus was approaching (how to e brake?).
Tat's why at such places there's always someone on e road standing for safety coverage.

Driver was attempting to cut back into first lane when it happened... he most likely didn't look out for the extended part of the plant pruning truck. It's the same thing as the 7499A accident where the driver should have looked out for the branch.
Though the plant pruning truck is partly responsible for the accident, the driver is also at fault this time...
Alamak! Not Chai Chee St! Its Bedok North St! Got 20m separation!
Man sad to heard someone died in this tragedy. These days seems riding buses is dangerous....
Ahh, if next time, you see Got one Supler Olympian and 1 B9TL Wright, take the B9TL Wright, 100% safe XD.
But Super Olympian tree-proof XD

BC's job is to drive bus, not to look at branches and cranes. If BC crash into bus-stop (Like in Eunos Link), its either bus or driver's fault lor.. These years seeing a lot of bus accidents in the East side of Singapore.

7499A one is really lighnting strike. Probably you have not taken an DD passing by Maple Ave, how close tat branch actually could go.
Furthermore the road is tilted, new drivers might not even know.
As for this case, both party in e wrong. In any case as far as I remembered, there should be a cordoned safety zone.
Actually the mature trees at Chai Chee and Bedok North Road are DANGEROUS! There was once that a branch missed me just 5m away from me and another time a fruit dropped 5m behind me. Man!

Even if there wasn't a safety zone it should be common sense to know that one must get some distance clearance of another vehicle before attempting to overtake and not switch lanes immediately past the vehicle.
I stand by my position that the driver is majority at fault this time; SBST needs to take up some form of responsibility this time since after all a passenger died in their buses.

The problem is, there's a blind spot looking at these cranes when it's extruded. Tat's why e safety cordon is for. It could happen to those vans w/ tall shelter looking at e height.
As for accident, does not mean SBS or whoever has to take responsibility. Just like passengers fall down because a car cut right in front of e bus means bus co gotta take responsibilty?
RIP for the passenger who passed away

Even though a BC's job is to drive bus, they still have to look out for hazards on the road, its part of their job because it about passenger safety (Tell me how many BC's have you seen just drive straight into something that he can see that will endanger the passenger's life, none right?)
Anyway the bus involved is SBS9400X, running on duty 17P first trip.
