6-door cars (10th car) phrasing out due to platform door installation.
By capacity, I meant the 11-car configuration compared to our 6-car. Although our trains are said to be able to carry 1920 passengers, that is already 180% load factor according to JIS.
Yamanote Line hits a maximum of 205% loading on the Ueno to Okachimachi on the outer loop.
A standard E231-500 can carry 1744 passengers at 100% loading (seats and handgrips fully occupied). 205% means 3575 passengers, and that is what I meant by real capacity difference.
MRT reguarly hits 210 to 230% loading in morning peak and holiday periods. Even in the evening it can hit 170 to 190%.
Implement peak hour surcharge (35% 6-8pm, 15% 8-10pm) for trains might help to spread out the crowd.
Also offer discount for 4-6pm & 10pm (20%) onwards.
I seriously think this article came out to divert the media's attention from Saw's high pay and comments made a few days earlier.
You know how the Singapore media works ya...

that will require raising peak hour fares so that revenue for the operators will be the same.
are those peak-hour travellers willing to subsidize non-peak hour travellers, like how they just got direct ride commuters to subsidze those who need to make transfers?

Madness.
The govt has been trying to encourage families to eat together so it'll not happen as far as I can see. ( Eg Eat with family day etc)

The govt will never do that. This just means that they are forcing people to nowhere.

Yeah stay at home and erm... make babies. Garmen encourage more from Singaporeans right? ;D
Cheers.
There was 1 time MTR was forced to impose peak hour surcharge and bus svs was re-introduced in e MTR corridor.
But you must have e buses 1st before implementing new routes.
In any case wat she mentioned isn't wats going on.
During off peak you could see TOs rushing their way thru and stopping in e middle of e track. I remembered once rushing from BNL all e way to JUE even though there's 1 train aprrox 1 min ahead. The dwell time at CNG was 0 second. Immediate buzzer sounded off.
So the train ended had to made a complete halt before JUE.
Ends up erratic frequency. No spacing discipline.
Two things.- Divert attention on SAW's high pay and the lapse in security

no use la
e additional trains and JUE upgrade is done by LTA not her.
Unless ask SMRT to finance it themselves or even BOT everything. Think she and Temasek's big boss will cry recovering e cost.
