it's been nearly 9 years since transitlink farecard is disused, till now they're still on a lot of buses. given the newest buses in 2001 were hispano bendys, does that mean these obsolete machines will remain till 2018?

The Volvo Super Olympians or the CNG buses were the very last to use the Transitlink validators.

VSOs brand new from 2002 to 2005 don't have TransitLink validators, they use printing tickets.
CNG buses brand new after 2002, also don't have TransitLink validators, they also use printing tickets.

SMRT and SBST uses it to print tickets only since they do not want the hassle to change it to a ticket printer

We may have switched over to ez-link card by Dec 2001, but the tickets continued to be printed the old way via a Transitlink validator with ticket printer add-on.
Will be there until 2018 bah. Cost is too high to replace every single one, especially when a lot of the buses are going on layup soon... 2 -3 years no point changing, unless Sir Peanuts sponsor lor... =)

I remember about the transition of TransitLink Magnetic farecards to the new ez-link cards. The full-fledged usage of ez-link cards on buses and trains does not commence in December 2001 but 1 December 2002.
1. The ez-link cards were ready for use since 1 April 2002. However, with the ez-link cards ready for usage, the TransitLink farecards were still accepted.
2. The revaluation and the sales of TransitLink farecards stopped on 15 November 2002. This move will facilitate passengers to switch to ez-link cards as TransitLink farecards will no longer be in used after 30 November 2002.
3. With the TransitLink farecards no longer be accepted, the validators located at the opposite of the driver's cabin were removed progressively since the start of 2003.
4. As for the refund of TransitLink farecards, the latest refund date would be on 15 November 2006, which was 4 years after the sale/top up of farecards, i.e. 15 November 2002 as the latest date.
To add-on to it.
Several KL city buses (Intrakota Consolidated & RapidKL) uses the TransitLink validators. If you had gotten a ticket from those KL buses, you would be able to see that it is exactly printed as the same format as TransitLink's.
i think SBS9889U was the last bus to have it iirc
how about those ancient ticket printing machines as big as a validator? i remb when not all buses had 2 validators and 1 side was this machine.

Totally phased out at the late 1996/early 1997.
