Those BC who does are not skilled enough to "control" the stiffness will end up like pulling carrot from the ground while throwing his/her whole bodyweight into it. There are also cases where some leylands steering are slightly lighter while some are heavier.
The steering of Leyland Olympian Superbus is indeed heavy, regardless of skill. Try turning 3 rounds to left and 3 rounds to the right. The reason is because it is a hydraulic power steering, not electric power steering like Mercs. On top of that, the steering handle is too thin for comfort.
The only nice feature about the Leyland Olympian is D3 drive button which allow the driver to hold onto the 3rd gear longer. This is useful in maintaining the speed when taking up slopes on full load.
The first Leyland aircon double deck SBS9000 used to have a CCTV in the upper saloon. The viewing screen was located just on the right of the dashboard.

Take either Sv 174, Sv 154, Sv 30 or Sv 157 at Boon Lay Interchange
Sv 143, Sv 88, Sv 31 or Sv 8 at Toa Payoh Interchange
Sv 197, Sv 98, Sv 51 or Sv 78 at Jurong East Interchange
and sit at the front row when the BC is reversing out of the end-on berth. You will see how the BC drive.

Sv 51 only have 1 perm LO3x . Sv 78 , 79 at Jurong East Interchange. Sv 249 at Boon Lay Interchange.
SBS may have the newest Leylands, but they would not be the last to go. After the LO3s are gone, there would still be other Leylands in the world still operating... *sigh* too bad SBS is not preserving LO3s.

Just a short childhood story telling:
Last time I saw this particular Leyland Olympian bus A and this particular Volvo Olympian bus B, and I saw the back ventilation grills are two squares and a rectangle. So I asked my mum: Mum, same bus or different bus? She said she don't know.
2 years ago, revealed. Leyland Olympian and Volvo Olympian. :D
As of the centre screw, i don't look at that. Last time not really specific about rims, I am into bigger things :D But when the bus comes, it's blue circle, imprinted LEYLAND, if the centre thing not painted to red or silver.

Trust me. I had driven one. I remember driving 190 when it was still operated by SBS. It was heavy even when the bus was moving. Imagine reversing out of a parking lot, and turning the steering wheel to lock, and then turn the other way by 6 rounds everyday (lock to lock), you won't need to go to gym anymore.
The fuel pedal was not responsive and when you step on it, it takes 1 or 2 seconds before the bus starts moving, because it was an air actuated pump, unlike Volvo or Mercs.
The power was not too bad during that time. I had driven once along PIE at 90km/h. Due to its heavy weight at 14 tons, driver will have to press the pedal all the way down when taking on slopes, especially when fully laden with passengers.

it sounds like the driver would die if he drives it on 51 during peak hours for full trip.
I can already imagine... Go to Malaysia rent a Proton Saga Iswara and try out. My mother had a hard time.

Service 51? It was the worst route I had ever driven. 2 hours 14 minutes on each journey. Imagine you have stomachache or high tide. Once the pee almost leak out when I arrived at Hougang Interchange. I probably ran to the toilet faster than Usain Bolt.

if 51's route passes by New Bridge Rd terminal you would have had an easier time driving.
This applies to svc 30 and svc 154 BC..

I remembered that there was an Asok Leyland Comet under SBS in the 70s and 80s.
Albion (and Guy) were taken over by BL, which itself was sold to Volvo.
The Victories are strictly speaking not quite Leyland. However, the Vikings carried the Leyland badges too even though they came from Albion.
Ashok Leyland was an Indian offshoot of BL, now independent. It still produces the Viking based on old-school blueprints.
