yes.... but didn't know LKY had a qualifications debate. sounded elitist then to the voters on the ground, as suggested by the article.

not surprising... then ppl could only write to newspapers or their MP's, and there wasn't the Internet.

HDB flats are "affordable" because a $500,000 HDB flat is just only 3 months of his $2 million dollar annual salary.
And he probably wonders why some people need 30 years to pay off a HDB mortgage loan.
He is not even eligible to apply for one with his current salary.

Some were also on endless queues at bus interchanges for 97, 261 in the 1980 - 1983 period. The cham days w/o MRT.
Then got 1 over direct bus from Bedok to e newly formed NP. Dun forget back then 154 ended at Macpherson Estate, 2 ended at Buona Vista, 7 ended at MINDEF HQ @ Tanglin.

For all you know, graduates will need to be "cheaper, better and faster" too.
Your days of a $10,000 salary a month could be a thing of the past soon.
back in 1980s
SBS's spokesperson was also a Tammie.
oh yesh.. MBT wasn't e only pioneering lao jiaos of SBS. Mr Wong Hung Khim was one of the few.
Back in 1996, ppl in NTU kpkb abt 199 w/ aircon buses. A decade ltr, everyone wants aircon buses. lmao

You are right.
HDB checks your salary first before allowing you to apply to buy a flat.
Some people might not even qualify to buy a HDB flat.
That is quite sad, considering HDB is public housing.
The scary thing about this article is the line:
"According to official statistics, there are about 350,000 full-time employed “resident workers” earning less than $1,400 in 2009, of which the number of citizens remain a mystery since citizens and PRs are lumped together under the same category of “resident workers.” "
There are 350,000 full time employed workers earning less than $1,400 (a month?) .
Scary.

If people cannot imagine the magnitude of this increase, look at $250,000 as a QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS.
OT : 3 room flats can go higher then a quarter of a million dollars [$250K] , especially in those famous places like queenstown , Ang Mo Kio , etc. Some even hit $300K before..... Are they so desperate for money? o.O
