Svc 170 - Replacement of Volvo B10M Mark 3

  Volvo B10M Mark 3 will be de-registered at the end of 2010, what is the replacement bus for JB bound buses? Is it K230UB, B7RLE, B9L or B10M Mark 4 (DM3500)?

  OR Volvo B9TL / Eclipse Gemini (for route 170)?

  if KUB is used then by the time it comes back to SG will be a totally different bus liao..

  Hopefully striders, DMs and DM3500s. =)
  
  They are a lot more comfortable than KUBs.... and also the laws state that a high percentage has to be WAB buses for basic services anyway, thus leaving 160 and 170 to be the only services (apart from Express, Fast Forward, Chinatown Direct and RWS) to be unaffected by the WAB regulation..

  coz quite sometime back got this striders deployment to bbdep where they exchange their 1xxx for the 2xxx series..

  Actually hor e Striders were to supposed to be deployed for 170 instead of MK3 back then.

  Since the JB bound buses gotta fit e 3rd brake light, dun think it's economical to be mounted on Striders.

  I feel that SBST is preparing to send MK 4s on 170 route. HGDEP has the most number of MK 4 SP which means that they can transfer them to BBDEP anytime.

  all buses would eventually be WAB

  In any case, 170 is the sole service bet Kranji MRT/ Bt Timah & Woodlands Ctr bi-directional (178 being Woodlands bound less if considering tat Town Park bus stop across).

  i think itd be better to register the K230s for cross border svc. no point registering the MK4s and a few years later when the lifespan is up, change again. the process of registering the buses for cross border travel is troublesome. also svc 170 can do away with so many different type of destos with the use of EDS on the K230s. and its better to deploy buses with 2 PIW spaces, so that the bigger space can better handle the crowds. but if K230s are deployed on svc 170, i think the blue plate svc 170 should be renamed as maybe 170M.

  dun ask me why i know, but sbst already got plans to replace them with mk4s last year and already sought approval. but because of some cock ups, the plan was shelved.

  Replacement with Mk4s is a correct move. SBST would not have to risk new buses detained in JB in case of problem arise.

  Replacement of buses submission to KL take a long time and process. From submission of documents and plans till to inspection of buses at JB, then subsequent given the permit to operate would take about almost a year if not more.
