to all those who want to take elbos (my least fav), 187 has e most no. of perm ELBOs.
For me only 2 times in 2006 and at that time i didnt know it was a ELBO and if i am right, the air-con is so damn weird. no controller one lor :X
man i missed them :(
I have taken 3 only
TIB839E (2007) and TIB842U (2008) on 911
TIB837K (2008) on 961
I take them on an average 1.5 times per month. Some of them cannot be helped by the aircon probs and some passengers could not bear the vibration and the dusty seats.
To me, their performance quite ok. But, the interior design wasn't what i like. It may have been TIBS mistake of not refurbishing the interior during the 'transformation' from NAC to CAC in 2001. This may have started the 'complaints' ball rolling in my opinion.
TIB840A can still be seen on 852 and the rest could be spotted on 187.
P.S: Do look out for cameos. Common Services: 167, 178, 965, 969, 980(TIB847G weekend perm)
ive taken 5 ELBOs, 6 rides, 4 services.
TIB846J on 187 (Boon Lay Int to Woodlands Int)
TIB833X on 961 (Dunearn Rd to Farrer Rd)
TIB846J on 187 (Bt Batok West Ave 2 to Bt Batok Central)
TIB840A on 852 (Yishun Int to Yishun Ave 2)
TIB847G on 857 (Yishun Int to Yishun Ave 2)
TIB844P on 852 (Yishun Ave 2 to Marymount Rd)
Lay up and Redeployment?
Back to the topic, most of my ELBO rides were on 167 & 700 (WLDEP). Never took any ELBO on KJDEP services though.
I have taken them countless times... including when they were still NAC perm on svc 851. TIB847G was(is) perm pn svc 857 after it gone AC so I have been doing it on my way to work quite often previously. Can't say I love them, their faults are very glaring even when they were new new, but apart from the bodyworks and interior their chassis are no diff from the Strider bodied ones. 15 scrapped do look like a waste but I think SMRT would have done their sums and concluded that replacing them with the Gemilang OC's would be more cost-effective.
The way that the wheel hub areas were almost always re-soldered and painted over suggested that the area always give problems. Plus the windscreen and desto areas were always replaced DIY after an accident rather than being replaced with proper parts suggested a problem in obtaining spares for the bodywork.
sad sad 4 me, nvr in my life [i'm serious] took this bus before.
My last ride is TIB834T on 187... from jw st 52 there to bus-stop b4 jrg point
put these buses as training buses loh..i dun think SMRT will lay up these buses cos of passengers complains. Most likely they are facing difficulties/high cost in maintaining these buses?

kj elbos are same as wl elbos.
Ke yi liao.
i took ELBO almost everyday on 187 in 2007 and 2008.
so i think i'll miss it to the extreme.
this is the only bus with ergonomic seats. its curved in to support your back unlike other buses with just a flat back rest.
gosh! i didnt know SMRT wanted to scrap them too.
you guys complain too much already. hahaha wow.

Umm yeah.. the Arianne seats.. as compared to Vogelsitze. They didn't look like much when they first arrived but their plastic leather covers proved to be much more sensible than the dusty cloth covered ones.

anyway, i thought i saw an ELBO with plastic seats at bt batok a few months back, but ppl said there wasnt such a thing, can anyone verify?
it would be better to scrap them than to keep them, bus really falling apart
