Articulated Buses vs Double Deckers

  Hello, I still young here, so I was wondering, which bus can hold more people?
  
  SMRT's Articulated Buses or SBST's Double Deckers?
  
  Another question is why SMRT never buy double deckers and why SBST never buy more articulated buses?
  
  I know they bought 998 and 999 but sold away because maintenance fee high.
  
  Is it because SBST's trial for articulated buses fail? but how come SMRT's/TIBS's trial successfully leh?

  So far I believe Nee Soon is the only case DDs cannot be used based on what I see on those housing board flats
  
  DDs can allow more seating passengers, thus might end up w/ better loading rate than artis

  How come DDs cannot be used in Nee Soon? Height restriction?

  Thumbs up to Bendies, especially if the Habits ARE Low floor one. I so tall, i always my head hit the a/c vent.

  each company has their different opinions and beliefs, just like humans.
  
  in this case, SMRT believes in their bendies.. SBST believes in their DDs.
  
  SMRT states that its bendies can carry more pax as there is a lot of space for standees. however, i can say that this is not maximised as pax simply refuse to move to the rear. SMRT even criticises SBST for its DD as they're 'bulky' and 'hog up the road'.
  
  SBST however states that its DDs can carry even more pax. this is due to having more seats on the upper deck. noting that no standees are allowed on the upper deck, there is a standee area on the lower deck(not available on LO3x tho). SBST then criticises SMRT's bendies as potential road hazards and use up space at bus bays of bus stops, making boarding for two or three buses at the same time difficult.
  
  all this can be found on an article in the straits times in 2005.
  
  my choice? no favourites.

  I'll be happy when they deploy bendies on the 171 evening route from Marina Centre to Yishun, and double the frequency of 151 and revert it back to AC.

  I am in favour of the bendies.
  Yesterday took SBS9606U, there were 84 sittings and 55 standings, according to the specs. plate. It has modified standing area at the lower deck, meaning seats are removed for standings. Will take a Leyland soon to see the unmodified number, erm, of sitting and standing.

  Bendies, seriously I am not sure, but I guess its about 64 sitting and 50 plus standing.

  Bendies is 60 seating, 72 standing..
  
  But oftenly I only see 30 standee and the bus is 'overloaded'

  But I also see the same situation occuring for DDs.
  
  Like for Svc 179, although lower deck squeeze like sardines, upper deck still empty bcos ppl don't know got space upstairs or want the bus to move faster.

  SVC 179 buses dont have that upper deck counter?

  yes , dun have , svc 179 uses full lo3X fleet except for 2 0405 and VO2x

  Articulate buses/Bendy
  Advantagesowerful acceleration,Faster boarding/Alighting/More paxs,More standees.Turning radius is excellent over rigid buses and DDs.
  Disadvantages:Not good for long journey like 45 mins above.When the SL beats the lights he had to double worry whether the trailer had over the line or not(Risk of traffic camera flash).A disaster if it enter a basic bus stop meant for a bus only.(Poor behind buses)
  
  Double Deckers/Superbus
  Advantages:Good panoramic views at the upper deck,Comfortable for long journeys.Can seat more pax but not standees.
  Disadvantages:Slow acceleration,Not friendly for senior citizens/disable peoples to go upper decks.Howling during climbing steep slopes and had to slow down on turns.Low branches!!

  I defintely prefer DDs...
  
  I believe Bendies can actually fit more passengers than DDs, but most of them are standing instead. On DDs, there are more seats.
  
  I don't actually think it is that easy to topple DDs. All DDs (not lousy china rubbish buses) are tested with a tilt angle of IIRC 27 degrees with all upper deck seats filled with sandbags and lower deck empty, except for the driver seat, which contains a sandbag too.
  
  Besides, the chassis is very heavy, with the engine and A/C mounted.
