Why girls like diamonds so much?

cos thats what the advertisers want them to think... that diamonds are forever... granite stones are also forever...in fact i think that a nicely cut piece of glass looks the same and cost much less....
How many girls can actually tell the quality of a low grade diamond with flaws to a high grade one, not to mention good imitations?
With close to 90% of S'poreans living in HDB flats (and therefore involves the taking of a lift after a late night date), wearing expensive jewellery like diamonds (even cheap ones) can lead to a tragic loss of life (either the girlfriend's or the boyfriend's life)from a botched robbery attempt. -
some see it as a investment. technically, i dont it it very useful.

I think equal the diamond to hard cash$$$$ and the number of girls, all guys will surely understand the values of it importance. Therefore, donÂ’t be too sure that guys donÂ’t covet diamond as much as girls do.

the point is not all guys (or a majority of them) are into cars, some are into bikes, some into ships, some into airplanes. and not all guys are into soccer, some are into basketball, some are into rugby. the point is why are the majority of girls (aka female species) into the stone called diamond when there are more valuable items around (ie. gold, titanium, etc.). it's wrong to equate why men like girls (esp chio bus) because that's natural (heterosexual tendencies).

In the past, diamonds weren't as valuable as the rest of the gems, only after the monopoly of DeBeers was established (legend says it was through some intimidation, violence and mayhem) that the price of diamonds went through the roof.
Diamonds were harmless until recently.. where civil wars have been fought in places like Sierra Leone over the control of them. Fighting in itself is terrible enough but when children are harmed in ways so henious just to intimidate the population, the sale of diamonds become even more despicable. Remember... DeBeers is the monopoly.
Children are pressganged into labour. But these are the fortunate ones.
Others have their limbs hacked off and returned to their villages to intimidate the rest. Whole villages have been mutilated the same way.
For diamonds.
DeBeers say they do not trade with them. Yet they are a monopoly, and the rebels are still buying weapons. Add them up.
