Why are we seeing more short-lived marriages?

more young couples choosing to call it quits.....
it's no longer unusual to come across divorcees who haven't even crossed the age of 30.
Is it getting harder to be faithful?
only one out of five mentioned that a third person was involved. the other just fell apart because of character difference, lifestyle incompatibility and divergent expectations ......

right from the start, one should always ask him/herself: do i like or wish to marry this person because:
1. my heart says so?
2. my eyes says so?
3. my brain says so?
sometime ago, i remember seeing this article in straits time's forum, posted by a reader.
not in exact words but there was a sentence that went like this: ... you shouldn't judge a person by how he/she treats you, but observe how he/she treats the waiter when the both of you are out for a date... -
it seems like the young couples don't take their marriage vows seriously.
They can even said that their vows don't mean anything.. -
a 25 yrs old lady said she wanted a divorce after being married for 18 months, why? because only after marriage then they find they aren't compatible at all... and they are still young so why waste both of their time

At least I can give you BETTER REASONS than those above...? -
most of the ppl who married nowadays r juz because they have children and they wan hdb flats...many young gals r shot gunned in the last few yrs or maybe more r coming bt then i dun understand y r they getting married n divorce.if they get married juz coz of kids,i'm not going 2 get marry........without guys..WE GALS CAN Live on!!!

I guess maybe at times like these where the womenfolk are getting more financially capable of sustaining themselves, the need to rely on guys for security has greatly diminished. Moreover, the fact that married couples also want to delay having kids. Although having kids is not the surest way of saving the marriage, but I believe it does contributes by giving a reason not to divorce.
I don't really know how much this isssue has got to do with whether the spouse is faithful or not... Men have been unfaithful since way way back... So I believe its more of the changing lifestyles that is affecting marriages... -
