Embattled Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Steve Chia has stepped down as the secretary-general of the National Solidarity Party (NSP).
In a letter addressed to NSP president Yip Yew Weng and Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) chairman Chiam See Tong on Tuesday, he apologised to his party and the SDA for the bad publicity generated by allegations that he took nude pictures of his maid.
The NSP is a member of the SDA.
In the letter, Mr Chia said he was resigning as his party's representative to the SDA Council and as vice-chairman of the SDA executive committee.
The Straits Times Interactive understands that as he remains a member of the NSP, then he retains his seat in Parliament.
The NCMP also said he was quitting to spare his party and the opposition movement from further embarrassment and to put his 'own house in order'.
On Monday, Mr Chia admitted taking 'sexy photos' of his maid, but denied molesting her.
His admission came two days after The Straits Times broke the story that his wife had gone to the police alleging that he had molested the maid.
Still got Chiam See Tong and Low Tia Kiang mahOriginally posted by relevation:STEVE CHIA!
