Fastest Men's 100 m
Tim Montgomery of Gaffney, South Carolina, USA, is officially the world's fastest man, clocking an incredible 100 m time of 9.78 seconds at the 2002 International Association of Athletics Federations final in Paris, France. As well as securing the Guinness World Record, Tim picked up a pay packet of $250,000 – $50,000 for coming first, $100,000 for achieving the highest number of Grand Prix points and $100,000 for setting the world record.
The world's fastest man started not on the track but on the baseball and football field. However, following an injury, he discovered a talent for sprinting and was soon breaking records. "I knew I could break the world record ever since I ran 9.96 at the age of 19 when I had no muscles, no training and no technique," Tim said after his historic win. "I didnÂ’t know when, but I knew I eventually would do it. There's no limit for the record: world records are meant to be broken and I'm sure they will all be."
