THE hunt is on for those who were in contact with Miss Chong Pei Ling, 29, a Singapore woman who became the fourth person to bring the Sars virus here after a trip to Hongkong and Beijing.
Miss Chong is what the authorities call a new 'index case', and has sparked a new round of tracking everyone who came into contact with her while she was infectious because they might be at risk too.
She flew home sick from Beijing on China Southern Airlines flight CZ 355 on Wednesday morning, and is now at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The nine-member flight and cabin crew have been quarantined, and health authorities are trying to trace all passengers as well as anyone who went near Miss Chong that morning.
So far, only 13 of the 49 passengers have been contacted.
The flight arrived at Changi Airport's Terminal 1 at 5.38 am and the sick woman was met by her mother, who took her by taxi to Singapore General Hospital's (SGH) Accident & Emergency Department.
The authorities are now trying to find their taxi driver too.
Yesterday's disclosure exposes the weak link in the country's strategy to stop the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome, Sars, which has killed two men so far.
