SYF 2003 finals

I think that this competition was not well judged. I mean Isn't it obvious that the top band was surppose to be either TJC or SAJC. Personnally RJC sounded not too good. their 1st trumpets were blasting and splatering the notes like there was no tomorrow. no offence but i think that ppl in the singapore band scene should learn to voice out.

You have to admit though, other than RJ's trumpets with their high notes, they were relatively more controlled than the other bands. Their tone was very good and their expression too. Granted, the other bands were good too, some may even have better technicality, but I enjoyed RJ the most. Choice of songs and tone and all. Also, they toned down a lot from central judging. The judges commented then that the jc bands were too loud for the hall or sth to that extent. SYF is after all, related to MOE. Learning from experience and everything.

RJ were NOT fantastic.
If u ask me, they were sweet and ordinary.
Nothing special. Just another band.
And correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the second piece supposed to be a pop piece?
Apparently, i heard that other schools in the past have lost out because of the genre of their pieces.
And here u have a band winning the competition with a piece like that?

their second song was not a pop piece. and u hav to admit..their expression was much better compared to the other bands.

If you're good, the song you play doesn't matter. Anyway, first piece was on classical side and the second was an anime piece.

The second piece does not have to be a pop piece. As long as it's not the same style or sth.
