Not forgetting the less fortunate, NTUSB has actively organised several charity concerts to raise funds for charity over the past years. This year, NTUSB and her Alumni will be organising a combined charity concert, entitled
¡§Music from the Hearts 2003¡¨ at
The Esplanade Concert Hall on
12th Jul 2003 to raise funds for the
Community Chest.
¡§Music from the Hearts 2003¡¨ is the 4th charity concert NTUSB is organising since her inception in 1985. The band is indeed very honoured to have Her Excellency,
Mrs S R Nathan, to grace the concert as the Guest-of-Honour.
This concert will mark yet another significant milestone in the history of NTUSB. The Band and her Alumni will attempt the choice pieces of their award-winning participation in the 13th and 14th World Music Competition (WMC) in 1997 and 2001, namely
Russian Christmas Music, by Alfred Reed, and
Fantasy Variations on a theme by Niccolo Paganini, by James Barnes. This concert will definitely bring back fond memories not only to the Alumni players, but also to the supporters of NTUSB, who have watched the Band mature over the years.
The concert will also feature two guest bands -
Victoria Junior College Symphonic Band and
Nanyang Polytechnic Symphonic Band. All 3 bands - NTUSB, VJCSB, and NYPSB - are under the common guidance of Resident Conductor,
Mr Luk Hoi Yui. This is the first time the 3 bands from 3 different levels of education come together to stage a combined concert in the name of charity. This concert also serves as a valuable opportunity for Mr Luk to showcase his contributions to the local wind band scene. The finale to the concert will see the participants from all 3 bands together in a combined piece -
1812 Overture Sollenelle, by P.I. Tchaikovsky.
Through advertisements, sponsorships, and ticket sales, the band hopes to raise $10,000.00 for the Community Chest. The Band hopes that their gesture will help spread the message on the need to continuously show care and concern for the less fortunate despite the times of uncertainty and economic downturns.
Tickets for the concert are priced at
$25 (stall seats), $20 (1st 2 rows of stall nearer to the stage, foyer stalls, and Circle 1) and $18 (Circle 2 & 3.). For more information, please contact
