What does it mean to love another person?

This may sound like some inane question to you all, but I don't have the answer and felt it would good to have the answer. (I don't know if it's appropriate posting in this forum either.)
So, what does it mean to love another person after (you think) you've moved on from the previous? -

Love is the sacrifice of self for the benefitting of others.
WHen you love, you're thinking about what you can do for the other person, not what you can get out of it.
Love is also respect, knowing how to keep distance and give space. -
I am not sure coz im not in a relationship..but during that time with her was full of bliss and funz..

love got all kinds of feelings one....but its not feeling based, its decision based.
Feelings and mood change everyday. If go by feeling...then gone case liao...where to have commitment?

You would give without asking for returns.
It doesn't matter whether he/she likes you back or not, you'd just continue to like him/her and watch from afar. -

But anyway, I didn't really have a purpose in asking this question. Just read it off a book and thought I'd ask...

It means u are still able to love.
Not everyone can love again after a fall. -

Some people get scarred and become more sensitive later. We call this emotional baggage.
Some people try to adjust their expectations. We call this compromise or giving up.
Some people learn to hide things. We call them cheats or players.
Some people stay true to themselves. We call them stubborn.
Some people erase everything and start all over. We call them heartless.
Some people try to get friends or family involved. We call them gossips.
Some people try to control. We call them manipulators.
Some people try to ignore what doesn't meet their expectations. We call them blind.
Some people give up. We say they have commitment issues.
Some people start trying new things. We call them fickle. -

accept all, love all. don;t expect the othe party to change for you. rather accommodate each other. at the same time, tolerate each other's shortcoming.
What it means to love someone? When one is willing to work hard and put in lots of effort to live with the other party - that's a start of a good love relationship.
