ok tall structure is like this:Originally posted by sLaYeRgEr:chim![]()
i understand liao.. i think flat structure is gd.. cos elmo pres no need to make all those xiao xiao decision.. somemore she always go out meeting clients so no time to do make suggestion.. if not it will waste a lot of time... wat ya think..Originally posted by jOhO:ok tall structure is like this:
as opposed to a flat structure:
centralised management means everything is done from one place/office and usually means that only the upper management make decisions, even down to day-to-day operations. (eg a small business where the boss decide all)
de-centralised management allows middle managers and even supervisors enuff power to make decisions on their own, without consulting superiors for certain things. (eg branches of a chain of retail stores, where each store manager makes certain day to day operational and sometimes management decisions)

well there are pros and cons for each method... usually companies will decide depending on how big they are, and of course all these policies are subject to review.Originally posted by sLaYeRgEr:i understand liao.. i think flat structure is gd.. cos elmo pres no need to make all those xiao xiao decision.. somemore she always go out meeting clients so no time to do make suggestion.. if not it will waste a lot of time... wat ya think..

too much of this cannot.. too much of that also wun do .. how abt half of this n half of thatOriginally posted by jOhO:well there are pros and cons for each method... usually companies will decide depending on how big they are, and of course all these policies are subject to review.
while ur point is valid, passing too much control to middle management causes the upper management to lose control. if they lose control they can't steer the company in the right direction.
however if they command too much control, the lower management might be stifled and be robots instead of showing flair and creativity in their work.
to me management is not really a science.. it's an ART! very hard to understand fully. even if understand, hard to be perfect, cos sooo many factors, size of company (in terms of staff count, revenue, regional/global or local), industry, company culture etc. any management majors here?
