Hello folks! This is my third day at the island some call Fragrant Harbour although I don't seem to catch any fragance in the air and has yet to go near any harbour.
At first glance, the place looks and felt exactly like Singapore. The MTR, the high rise appartments...
However, given a closer look, Hong Kong can never be more different.
Are Hongkongers polite?
Yes they are! The service staffs, from porters to shop assistants are incredibly polite. You will never get this type of service in Singapore!
Are Hongkongers rude?
Yes again! Everyone on the streets are rude. They don't bother to hold the lifts and you have to keep giving way to people.
Do Hongkongers speak English?
NO! Being a former colony, you would expect them to be able to converse in English, but the fact is most of them can't speak good english although many tried to converse with me in I guess fluent Japanese. Ok I am being too critical here, there are many Hongkongers who can and does speak english but they all have blond hair and blue eyes.
Hongkongers are fit.
You will agree with me if you get to see how fast they walk. Incredible! The way they sprint across the decks of the train stations when they switch trains is simply spectacular! It is really a sight, imagine hundreds of commuters dressed in office attire, doing a fifty meter sprint.
Is the shopping good?
Well, as of yesterday, I've bought four tops which is three more than what Russ bought for himself the whole of last year. Most stuffs are not cheaper but they do have some pretty good bargains. Oh! Most importantly, departmental stores here allocate the same amount of floor space to both men and women.
I will continue this if I get the chance... if not, see you next sunday! -
