Apparently, the word 'originality'is not inside the vocabulary of Taiwanese music produceres and singers.Because of the immense popularity and success of J-pop all over Asia...the Taiwanese are starting to market their home-grown singers as 'fan ban'
J-pop stars....
One look at F4 and u know that it has 'SMAP'
written all over it...hell they even did a cover version of hirai Ken's 'gaining thru losing'(which is 'liu xing yu' btw)
Speaking of cover version,we hav seen numerous instances of taiwanese singers doing cover versions of popular J-POP songs.
The Taiwanese should develop their own brand of music instead of cashing in on the popularity of Japanese pop music.Otherwise, they'll always be playing second fiddle to J-pop....
In fact ,the only original Taiwanese artiste that i can think of is Zhou Jie Lun.But wait,I think there's a song in his Fan-te-xi album with a very Japanese theme rite?abt ninjas?
Oh well,if u can't beat'em,join'em
hmm... you seem to be missing out on all the cover-versions of korean songs... they seem to be a hit now... with Sammi, Xin Xiao Qi, etc...
as long as u inject ur own style into the song..."borrowing"(copy is too strong a word) is fine...

Talking about blatant imitation, I guess you have not seen the Singaporean shows. They are total rip-offs of Taiwanese stuff, and are downright lousy. At least when the Taiwanese copy, they usually customise and localise well enough to call the stuff their own.
The same for F4, they were born due to the Japanese manga adapted serial, but they are not crafted towards SMAP's direction on purpose (No way, SMAP is too good). Happened that F4 are developing in various areas is because of the company wanting to milk all the possible worth from them whilst they are still hot, rather than emulating SMAP, who have been up there for so long and had long proven their worth and talents.
Well, my belief is that copying to a certain extent is fine, as long as you do it well and do it right.
everyone is copying stuff from one another though ~
many songs are copied.. but sang in their own way n style ~
however some artiste just cannot make it even though they ripped songs off from others ~
so far the only artiste i admire who took songs from other sources is teresa teng~
mayb she is like a legend now but she is fantastic !
listen to her chinese songs.. some ripped from from japanese.. thai , indonesian songs.. blah blah but she carried these songs out so well ~
singapore drama serials or variety shows are also copied from taiwan or hk shows ~
so many copying around ~
taiwanese drama all copy japanese... they are just replacing the actors with their own... and lousy actors too!!
