we only need foreign talents in the 2 extremes. the highly talented and the untalented foreigners.
the former for highly skilled and expertised industry professionals which supplement the lack of local talent in that aspect. e.g. CEO, CFO, regional general manager etc.
the latter unskilled workers such as labourers, dockyard workers, construction workers, factory workers etc.
but we dun need the best of account assistants, the best casual dining waiters, best fast food restaurant manager etc.
nor are singaporean shunning service sector jobs such as "accounts executive"
so i don't see why the government should allow companies to hire cheap foreign imports to replace the local mid-level occupations.
and it cannot be said that singaporeans are lazy, since according to straits times, quoting OECD statistic, in Japan, the avg worker work 37hrs a week, compared to 44.9hrs/week for singaporeans.
we are already one of the most hardworking workforce in the world.

I think SG people are hardworking becos they have housing loans to repay....bo pian must piah to win mah....
Maybe 1 million of those people in SG are foreigners....
More foreigners are still coming into SG....should there be a limit at all? Everywhere I go I see half are foreigners...
We really have to agree with demon bane and deathmaster.
(1) Our country just has too many foreigners and they have infiltrated every level of our society and economy. There are foreigners here, the majority of whom will not get a job in Westrern Europe or the US. We're talking about foreigners working in SG as teachers (not just in the independent schools), lecturers, pilots (check out SIA), engineers, architects, IT consultants right up to CEOs (check out OCBC and DBS).
(2) Despite what that foreign-loving bastard Lee Hsien Loong said, there have been no laws passed to stop the continous inflow of foreigners. The fastest way would be to pass a law that only permits the hiring of foreigners if a local cannot be found for that job - this law can be imposed slowly on one job area at a time, maybe starting with teachers. Instead, those foreign-loving traitors have not changed the law that will give employment passes to any garbage foreigner who can get a job for $2500 a month - that's what taxi drivers earn in a month.
For the love of SG, isin't there a right-wing opposition party that will openly talk about stopping the inflow of foreigners and start repatriating foreigners from SG.
ONE COUNTRY
ONE PEOPLE
ONE SINGAPORE
ENOUGH OF FOREIGNERS
Will voting for opposition change the laws of employing foreigners? I just think there should be a limit to the influx of foreigners....now is already toooo many!
Beside maintaing peace and harmony, Can oppositions maintain an economy of the present singapore which is bullish and able to overcome an aging population with low birthrates without foreigner intake?? I will like to hear what they said, if it sound goods, why not, let hv a go with them.
today i take bus to school, not the same bus driver i see everyday le, replaced with a china , man. sigh

Even our beloved coffeeshops now hired so many PRC / Bangla....
Within the next 10 to 20 years all the oldies of the past will pass on. The newbies and talent imports will populate this place. They are brighter, better educated, and substantially wealthier. They will be the new Singaporeans who will take this place to greater heights. It doesnt really matter if they are born here or not as long as they collectively lift us as a nation to compete for a living in this tough world. I think the regeneration and rejuvination is good thing for Singapore.

why need 10 to 20 years? just import the talents n bundle up all the useless, uneducated, whether chinese helicopters or english submarines locals and throw them in the sea for coral reefs.
this is not yet a nation n never will be without the ardent singaporean

In the 90's the Hong Kong immigrants came and they left after a few years, selling their HDB flats and making a bundle. The government cronies who are at the helm of GLCs are rich also but did they care about the poor, did they care about the ctiizens? Ministers are dirt rich and powerful, but do they care?
Human heart is hard to predict, without proper screening of talented and sincere immigrants, it is just like a empty police station with fully loaded guns and a room full of robbers.
Only time will time, is it the beginning of the end or a start.
Go take the MRT and look around you and observe.
Half the commuters are likely not Singaporeans.
singaporean is vanishing.
PAP kill us all
Now SG >>Singaporeans=53% while Foreigners are like 47% OMG

Now then you know. -_-"
I started a restuarant recently in China, a SINGAPORE restuarant. What surprise me later is that many Singaporean who patronise my restuarant are former colleague, kampong friends and relatives. Mine you, my restuarant is not in Shanghai or Beijing but a remote seaside resort in Shangdong city called Yantai.
I was surprised by the large no of Singaporean now living in remote China cities. It probably means there are signficantly less Singaporean now living in Singapore compared with those early years. I returned to Singapore for the CNY and took a SQ flight. I again was surprise by how difficult now to book a flight back home. I am furthur surprised that many who took the same flights are PRCs going to Singapore either for holidays or engjoying the home they brough in Singapore.
The stories are real. It means that Singaporean no longer is living in Singapore and foreigners are taking over houses. properties that these Singapore are living behind.
Bye Bye Singapore.

Very true. I asked my prc friend why every cny he thinking of home in China? He is a professional working here for more than 10 yrs - coming to 18 yrs.
He said in China, their cny has village, festival-feel to it. The whole village comes together to celebrite cny.
The closest word that I can think of is the malay word gotong royang - community celebration.
In Singapore, it is the govt initiated, govt sanctioned, govt inspired cny celebration - very sad this is happening.
